On the way to the Big Apple

I'm a little bored on the flight, so I'm going to write something
while I'm on the plane.

"New York - big city of dreams." That's kind I the first thing I think
if when I say the words "New York." It's from a song by the Dogg
Pound. I have only images that I've seen in movies, and imagery from
song lyrics and books to shape my preconceptions of NYC.

Insert - this woman that is sitting in the window seat of my aisle is
annoying. She complains too much and thinks the dude sleeping between
us is with me so she keeps asking me to move his arm. Lame woman. And
she keeps getting up.

Well. Back to what I was thinking. I'm pretty excited to see New York
for myself. Only thing I am missing to share my excitement is Dawn.
We always have fun travelling with each other. No matter where we go,
we find a way to have a good time. And with luck, we usually always
find one, quirky spot that we remember as a lasting memory of our visit.

I'm wondering how this weekend will turn out. I want to do some
touristy things, but don't want to overdo it. Just the must see stuff,
you know? Times Square, Brooklyn Bridge, A glimpse of the Statue of
Liberty. Of course I hear about the cuisine in NY and how great young
chefs convene hear to make a name for themselves. I want to plan the
trip around eating great food. I don't really know if that's going to
happen. The magazine I bought in SFO was one about good, new
restaurants in NYC. Haha

What will surprise me most about NY? The people? The food? The
architecture? That's probably the most exciting thing to find on this
trip. Why would it be fun to experience things that you already expect?

Kind of rambling; but I have time. I think we have another hour an a
half.

I did find myself checking out the people that were boarding the
plane. I don't know what I was looking for - maybe something in the
people that top me they were from the big city. I guess I just wanted
to l see if I can spot a NYer and how different they look than a
SFer. If I can guess right - it's 70 degrees in SF bay area today so
the people with puffy jackets and scarves must be from NY.

Damn. This is turning out to be a long post.

I as considering taking the train/subwt to James' house, but I think
I'll take a taxi. Probably get a better view of the city skyline at
night if I drive in. Plus I don't feel like figuring out the route.

Okay. About an hour to land. I'll be taking lots of pictures for sure.
And I'll still me posting to my food blog so you see what I'm eaton
out here. I have a feeling there's going to be a lot of beer and
pizza. Haha

Update- they don't take cash on board the flight for drinks anymore.
They just scan your card. Also, I think the fish and chips at SFO made
me kinda bubbly tummy lol.

Another update- she in fact did think that we were friends. What?
Because we are both Asians?

Just landed yay!

enjoy! mom and i went to NYC together back in 2003?... the most memorable moment of the trip was when we were in Chinatown, and there was a big commotion of yelling and running, which for the guy running was quite hard to do with lots of people on the sidewalks. anyway, it turned out to be a guy trying to sell counterfeit handbags out of a trash bag and the cops were arresting him on the spot with a bunch of Chinese ladies staring at it all. that is NYC to me. haha
